Successful MA Convention 30 September 2014 Well over 40 delegates – a mix of medical doctors and therapists – attended the recent Medical Aesthetics Convention, which ran at Gallagher Convention Centre alongside the Professional Beauty Johannesburg Expo. “This year’s MA convention was an exciting event. Not only did we have some charismatic, informative speakers but also some very relevant topics on the latest trends, as well as the business aspect of running an aesthetic clinic. “The medical aesthetic exhibition that ran alongside the event on Saturday was also very well received by both delegates and exhibitors as it gave them chance to network during the lunch and tea breaks,” says convenor Karen Ellithorne. She notes that it was gratifying to see that many of the delegates were return visitors to the convention. “Feedback from the delegates was extremely positive – they enjoyed the varied topics but did put in a few requests to make the some of the slots a little bit longer. Delegates seemed to see benefit in attending the lectures as they arrived timeously and stayed to the end of each day.” According to the delegate feedback forms, the most popular speakers were Dr Marshall Murdoch, Sonette Donker, Danné Montague-King and Worjciech Swistak. “Dr Murdoch gave an outstanding educational presentation using a visual tool called Prezi. His passion for medical education was really evident from his lecture,” continues Ellithorne. “Sonette Donker was very well received for her confident and educational style of lecturing and Danné Montague-King managed to educate us on the treatment of ethnic skin, while still being extremely charismatic and humorous. “Worjciech Swistak, a manager of a successful aesthetic practice in Honeydew, gave a brilliant and witty lecture on the challenges of managing your staff in order to ensure that your patient has the best experience every time they enter your practice.”
