Dr Gerhard van Niekerk - GPSI Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Rejuvenation, is a full
time Aesthetic Practitioner since 2006. His special interest is facial analysis with appropriate
non-surgical 3D treatments where science and art converge into a natural, healthy and
rejuvenated result. He is an accredited national and international trainer in Dermal Fillers
(Merz, Sinclair), Neurotoxins, and Sutures (Silhouette Soft). He trains other doctors nationally
and internationally.
Dr Yael Joffe RD PhD – In the rapidly-evolving disciplines of Nutrigenomics and Nutrigenetics,
Dr Yael Joffe is acknowledged globally as an expert in the field. From her background as a
dietitian, she obtained her PhD from the University of Cape Town, exploring the genetics and
nutrition of obesity in South African women. She has co-authored “It’s not just your Genes”,
has published on nutrigenomics in peer-reviewed journals and has been involved in the
development and supervision of nutrigenomics courses around the world.
David Arthur – Clinical Pharmacist – B.Pharm (Wits), MPS, ABAAHP Diplomate, Board
Certified (American Board of Anti-Aging Health Practitioners)
An area of interest for David is anti-aging medicine. He is an advanced fellow and diplomate in
Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine,
and is the first pharmacist in South Africa to be board-certified by the American Academy for
Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine.
Laura Hoogland studied a Business Science degree with Honours in Marketing at UCT and
thereafter began working in financial services and pharmaceuticals (aesthetics and
complementary medicine). Drawing on her experience with her own personal health
struggle, Laura, alongside her business partner, Alex Royal, contemplated the daily battle
society endures in attempting to eat healthily and Daily Dietitian was born; a personalized,
healthy, delicious meal delivery service with a primary objective – to help people maintain
a suitable eating plan focused on achieving their personal health goals.
Dr Duncan Carmichael MBChB MRCGP, completed his medical degree at the University of
Cape Town in 1992. In 2005 he opened The Anti-Aging Clinic in Sea Point. He also has an
Anti-aging hormone diploma with Euromedicom and is the African representative to the
Euromedicom world advisory board. He lectures internationally in anti-aging medicine and
skin care. In 2013 he founded and is the clinical director for MyDNAhealth, a DNA testing
and treatment company. Duncan is also an executive board member of the AAMSSA
(Aesthetics and Anti-aging Medical Society of South Africa).
Dr Marisa Heyns MBChB, completed her medical degree at UCT in 2007 She is currently
practicing as an aesthetic GP and trainer under Leenyx Technologies and Dr Botha Training in
Cape Town, and has been fortunate to be part of distributing the new and exciting concept of
Soft Surgery in South Africa, involving new less invasive aesthetic technologies and techniques
that would otherwise require cosmetic surgery.
Dr Kamlen Pillay – After graduating with an MBChB from the University of Cape Town, Dr Pillay
spent some time is in the US, where he pursued his interests in Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery at
the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, from where he received a Diploma in Aesthetic
Medicine and Board Certifcate. As the Medical Director of the Wembley MediSpa, Dr Pillay,
ensures that the clinic is dedicated to cutting edge, holistic Aesthetic and Cosmetic procedures.
His key areas of interest include the use of stem cells and PRP in anti-aging and cosmetic
procedures as well as the use of lasers in Aesthetic medicine.
Dr Zak Schabort is the founder of the nationwide Cosmetic and Dental Emporium. After
studying dentistry at the University of Pretoria, He trained further in the highly specialized field
of Aesthetic Dentistry, both locally and abroad. Today he has trained doctors from all over the
world in cutting-edge Aesthetic Beauty Techniques.
Dr Nerina Wilkinson is a Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon practicing from the holistic
Antiageing Renaissance Body Science Institute in Cape Town. She is a member of the
Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and an Exco member of the Aesthetic and
Anti-aging medicine assosiation of SA. She is a lecturer and trainer for the Aesthetic Medical
Academy and presents scientific papers at congresses and publishes in health related
magazines. Dr Wilkinson has a major interest in aesthetic surgery of the face, breast and body,
closely integrating surgical with other non-invasive procedures.
Dr Des Fernandes graduated as a Medical Doctor in 1966. Initially he joined Prof. Christiaan
Barnard at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, but in 1975 he returned to Plastic Surgery and
worked with Dr. David Davies, who pioneered the early simultaneous repair of Cleft Lip and
Palate. He succeeded Dr. Davies as the Director of the Cleft Lip and Palate Unit at the Red Cross
War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town in 1979, a position he held for over 20 years.
He has been named the 6th out of the top 10 Plastic Surgeons in the World by Insignia
Magazine. He focuses on the face and neck and researches on the ideal skin care skin. He has
pioneered skin needling for regeneration rejuvenation of the skin.
Amy Bowie is a Medical Aesthetics Therapist and Founder of Pulse Dermatology and Laser.
Having spent 7 years in the UK, she trained alongside world-renowned plastic surgeons and
dermatologists including Dr Frances Prenna Jones, Miss Sherina Balaratnum and Mr Saif Dean
Rhobaye. Her client list included the rich and famous A-listers of the world. Amy became an expert in
non-surgical aesthetic treatments, going on to lead and train teams of medical therapists at
E.F.Medispa - The top clinic chain in the United Kingdom. She has since returned to Cape Town where
she runs her non surgical aesthetics clinic Pulse Dermatology and Laser in the Northern suburbs.
